Questions
OpenDictation needs microphone access to hear your voice, and accessibility permissions to insert text at your cursor. All permissions are requested on first launch, and you can manage them in System Settings.
No. All speech recognition runs locally on your Mac using the Voxtral model. Your audio never leaves your device, and nothing is stored after transcription. See our privacy page for details.
OpenDictation currently supports English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Dutch, and Italian via the Voxtral model. More languages are planned.
Yes. OpenDictation injects text at your cursor position using macOS accessibility APIs, so it works in any text field — browsers, editors, messaging apps, terminals, and more.
Absolutely. The default is ⌥ Space, but you can remap it to any key combination in the app's preferences.
